Are Baltimore A bodys special?

Cant help but noticing how Baltimore A Body owners {B in vin number right} take extra pride in their cars. Why?

Darth Menace 01-26-2014 10:31 PM

Mine is Baltimore....yay. but honestly I have no idea to your answer

webfoot 01-26-2014 10:32 PM

Mine was built in Baltimore, but I guess I don't know why it is special enough to ever mention it.

The Boss 01-26-2014 10:37 PM

Pontiac plant & Fremont cars are pretty special too. ;)

Were all GTO, tempest and lemans built in the same factory? I guess i dont mean all of them, but did each factory build all 3?

So nothing special about Baltimore. Are they more likely to have buidsheets or something {and where would they normaly be?}

In the early years, yes, they were built out off all the Pontuiac A-body assembly plants.
Things got interesting in the '70's. No GTO's or T-41 LeMans were built out of Oshawa plant in '71 or '72.
Only Pontiac A-body converts for '71 & '72 came out of Pontiac plant

Distribution of Baltimore plant LeMans & GTO's was the Northeast, mid Atlantic, up into eastern Canada & overseas shipouts. In the 80's & 90's I ran across a bunch of Baltimore built '68-70 Pontiac A-bodys in OK, Texas, NM, Arkansas. Nearly all had come down here during the Oilboom of the mid '70's- 1982. Many had received cheap bodywork & Earl Shieb paint jobs in the mid 70's & the rust was catching up with them. Kansas City, Arlington, Fremont & Lakewood GA builds are much more common in the Southern Plains & Texas

Seems like most 69 GTO Conv was built in Baltimore?

Baron Von Zeppelin 01-27-2014 01:25 PM

69 Baltimore cars are a bicht
No Buildsheets

Only seen 1 specimen in 30 years
Was the one that is usually taped to windshield for final inspection.
Garbage can must have been full , and they put it in the glovebox.

Lack of Bsheets is reason most try to pool info on 69 Balti cars

The original buildsheet was under the rear seat cushion of my '67 Baltimore built GTO convertible. I bought the car in California in 1983, and it had come from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

My 67 GTO Vert was built in Baltimore and sent to a dealer in Tennessee!

Due to the building of the new GP in 69 only at the home plant the production of Abodies only began there in April 69. Seems that most of that volume was transferred to Baltimore resulting in it being by far the biggest producer of Gto's in 69.

One thing I've noticed over the years about Baltimore cars was paintwork; the trunk spatter paint was darker and they sprayed paint farther down under the body than elsewhere.
