what engine do I have
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys. I need a little help with this one. If I remember correctly it was pulled out of a 74-76 Bonneville and was suppose to be a 455. When I got there I saw it stamped with 400 so hard telling what it really is. I bought it about 12 years ago and just never did anything with it. I still don't have the money to build it but I am going to get it cleaned up and inspected to see if it's worth saving any longer.
I tried to find the info about this block but I'm still not sure what I have. Thanks |
It's a 2 bolt main and there is a C in front of the 151201 stamp.

1971 2bbl 400.

Thanks guys.
So then would that make the date code I281 Oct 28 1971? |
It would be September, 28'th, 1971, making it for a 72 production year car. So, technically, it's a 72 400.

Anyhow the block is still good as a 400 core to build as a 400... or a stroker. |

Looks to be the same block as im using. Mine came out of a '72 catalina

To me the most important numbers are the 6-digit engine block ID no., cast in raised numbers. "481988" means it's a good 400 block- end of story.
