Trans Swap question

Ok guys, possibly stupid question here, but before I go and start removing things I would like some input.

I have swapped out my TH 400 for a 200-4R. It is a little narrower that the TH400, so the linkage from the trans up to the steering column now hits my headers, and I cannot move the shifter through it's full range of motion.

I have toyed with the idea of removing this linkage, but I know it is tied into the neutral safety switch on the column.

If I remove this linkage, and anchor the column arm, what will happen?

I am also looking at lengthening the rod that goes from the trans to the frame so that I can retain all of this linkage.

Any 200-4R swap guys here?

What did you do?

On my Turbo 400 to TKO swap I simply made sure the column arm was in the park location. No issues with it.

Backup lights and neutral safety won't work. I think they are still located on the bottom of the column.

I used an aftermarket shift rod set up when I did a swap into a 70 Suburban. Worked out well for me. Perhaps it will be something that will work for you. There are less expensive versions available from other manufacturers
