68 Vinyl top clip placement
 

Just wondering if anyone can post pictures of the placement of all the different types of clips for the the vinyl tops trim? I got my car with the top removed long ago and I want to put it back on.

Any help would be great

These are original nails and holes but I don't have dimensional info. Lay the trim out to where it fits well, and just find center of trim. Pins don't need to be dead on spacing wise, but holes need to be pretty close in terms of their locations!
If you could scare up an old set of pot metal corner pcs., just cut off the studs, and drill a small hole through them, and this would allow you to mark the pin locations under the corner pcs.??
The one pic is just showing the chrome loosely attached.

If you could find someone with a vinyl top and a body getting ready for paint you could probably make templates to match everything up.

I have a 68 GTO that originally had a vinyl top that has not gone back on yet so I can take photos of the pin locations. Do you want me to post them here?

My opinion, it's always good to do that kind of stuff on the open forums so others can see it if they search it in the future.

By the way, the locations marked 'HOLE' on the photos above require the special trim clips that have a threaded stud to go through the hole and a trim nut to hold in place. The other end of course is made to fit into the trim.
All of the 'NAILS' or clip studs as I call them, require the regular snap on type clips. You have another special type clip that fits the trim on one side and inserts into a hole right at the corner of the rear quarter glass.
I may have some photos of the different type clips if no one else posts any.

All I have is a bag of clips and no way of knowing the location for each one... I should of had the guy take photos of disassemble for me.

I would imagine this information would be helpful for all GM a bodies from 68-72 or at least just the GTO/LeMans.

Mine had already been removed too and when I did some extensive metal replacement due to vinyl top rot, I had no idea where everything went. I actually had to visit the junkyard over a period of time to get a consensus of how GM did it to the A bodies in the late '60s.
The style of moulding clips varied from car to car but the attachement method remained pretty constant.
