F body headers in 66 Catalina
 

Have the engine in and put the headers on today. $99 Summit headers for a second gen Firebird. After raising the engine up about 5 inches I could get them in place. They required some hammer love at the steering box and the passenger side rear A arm of all places. Other than that decent fit

What Summit part number are those?

SUM-G9020. I bought them 2 years ago. I'm going to make a reflective heat shield for the steering box but I was surprised they didn't require a lot of hammer work. A couple of dings here and there and they went in. You'd think F body headers would fall into a B body but not the case. I'm hoping to get it started for the first time on the 11th. Hope it holds together. If it runs its on to brakes and trying to fab up a ford truck rear.

Is this automatic transmission? On the column or on the floor? I had always heard that no headers fit an auto on column for 65 - 70. True or no?

It's been an auto with floor shift since before I bought it at the scrapper

Hmmm... That's tempting... Especially since I haven't finalized the exhaust plans for my '66 wagon. How's the ground clearance?

I'll check ground clearance when I get a chance. Seemed ok with 225/70/15s. I was hoping headers designed for a tight F body engine bay would easily fit a big B body. Plus I'm too poor for fancy manifolds or custom headers.

Even with a heat shield I may look at a power steering cooler as well.

Tucks up against where the floor would be. Doesn't hang too low.

Got tied up the other day. I'll measure clearance and hopefully start it tomorrow.

5 inches of clearance with 185/65/14's on the front.

Will these headers fit, with a little massaging, on a column shift car?
