Starter wire harness retainer
 

Does anyone know if the wire harness retainer shown in the attached picture is in the correct position. This is a picture of my last Formula, and I have always installed this retainer in the front motor mount bolt hole, but I just bought a new retainer to replace the one on my 71 t/a that was missing, and the instructions show it as being at the rear of the motor mount.

My '72 And '73 had it in the front. I doubt they were messed with before I got there.

1971 Assembly Manual - Electrical Section - 484158 Sheet 1 of 7 has the detail of those clips. For LS5 one was used on front and one on back bolt of left hand motor mount insulator.

Notice how this is "LS5 ONLY".

One clip is pointed to as number 20 in the parts listing. That is the rear clip and looks like Chris's (where did you get that one Chris?).

Then look for the "EXISTING BOLT & WASHER" text and follow the two lines from it and you should be able to make out the front and rear one. Here are the individual part numbers. Somewhere on here someone had a broken motor mount but it still had the clips intact and it was a decent picture of some real ones. Front one had a definite distinctly different shape to it, thus the reason for two part numbers.

Thing to note about these clips is they have a ridge bent into them to give them some rigidity. Not just a flat piece of metal. You can see the ridge in the Giles picture in the front clip.

Sort of like these - but these are for another application - just showing the ridge in the metal.

I have to disagree. While it has some similarities that one doesn't have the bend in the middle of it and if you took one of those and just tried to bend it more to shape I believe the ridge in the middle would cause it to buckle oddly if simply bent.

I also think the originals don't have the offset tab for the bolt hole, but someone with an original set (Weranc55, 68BirdHO) can maybe post a better picture of these clips?

If you take a look at the post #8 by Norwood and look real close at the first picture - left hand side - I think you will agree that if the clip had an offset that it would not be hanging straight down from the bolt head.

The clip Inline Tube repops is the later style. Started on the D-port cars in '72.
