th350 filler tube o-ring seal
I need to replace the filler tube o-ring on the th350 in the Bird. Is the fluid level below that point in the case or will I loose fluid out the filler tube hole? Thanks.

Seems like fluid level is above the o-ring with the engine not running.
I have changed them by jacking up passenger side only without making a mess. Clay |
Mine had leaked down so that no more would run out. If I'd kept the car, I'd have swapped the tube for a FitzAll stick & tube, with the top hat type seal. My tranny guy told me about 'em. Says he has sold a lot of 'em. Says top hat seal works MUCH better than the single O-ring.
Or, if you wanna keep your stock tube, you can cut off the end & attach one of the top hat seal type repair ends. I think Cliff has mentioned using these. These parts are sold on Ebay, Amazon and probably lots of trans shops. http://www.fitzall.com/filler_tubes.php https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Aut.../dp/B00B40MPVM http://www.ebay.com/itm/TH350-TH350C...ZRlSCr&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Filler-Tube-...JWp9SE&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dipstick-Fil...-/300803616743 |
Thanks for the tips; may look into the Fitzall solution.

For info, the factory tube in my 69 Firebird's TH350 is the "top hat" style seal.....first time I'd seen one, my auto trans guy said they are a much better seal than the o ring.

I've seen a lot of factory tubes from the late 60's & early '70's. And I never even heard of a top hat seal, until recently, much less saw one on an original '69 tube. So, are you saying that you have a '69 tube that came from the Pontiac factory with a top hat type seal ? Or is it a factory tube which has had the end changed over to the top hat style. |

I'll do a search & see if I can find that thread. Here's 2 of 'em. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...light=dipstick http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...55#post5689355 |
Thanks ponakr, I already have some Marine Tex so I think I'll go with the FitzAll repair part and give it a shot.
