Choke pull-off vacuum
 

Hi everyone
Haven’t been around much lately but I finally got some time to put the 7040573 carb that Cliff rebuilt for me back on my Judge. The carb I had been running for some time had a plastic choke pull-off and the vacuum line went right into the carb. The one on my rebuilt has two nipples (second pic). One with a line to the carb body. Where does the other one go?

I may have answered my own question by looking at some old posts. I don’t think this dual-port choke pull-off is correct for a RA carb. Can I just cap the one open port for now? Does anybody reproduce the correct single port?

It is a RA carb! Just for California though.
(rarer?)


I'd say the extra nipple is for some emission hose.
The base plate doesn't look like it has the nipple for the PCV, so maybe something for that?


I don't know anything about them really though.

Goes to the charcoal can on core support for California built cars.

The dual nipple choke pull-off is a Pontiac non-RamAir (and Cadillac) one-year only device.
It´s part of the "choke delay system", the second port is connected to a vacuum tank mounted on passenger side inner fender.
If not used this port needs a plug.

The PCV-hose goes to the 90° nipple right under the carburetor fuel inlet, no fitting on throttle-plate.

The charcoal can has a 1/4" fitting on throttle-plate and a 3/8" ventilation fitting on airhorn.

Kenth, the 7040573 is not a RA carb?

7040573 is a Ram Air carb, but the RA carbs did NOT use the dual nipple choke pull-off. It should have a plastic pull-off with a single nipple.

1969 7028273 pull-off and fast idle cam--both plastic,

I believe that these pull-offs were color coded by carb. I believe that you can buy a generic white one that will look better than metal in my opinion.

But I don't know everything about this by any stretch..........

Thanks for all the feedback. I actually tried removing the single-Port from the old carb but I could not figure out how this slides off. Is there some special trick to pulling these off?

You can try a reverse snap ring/needle nose pliers to spread the metal tabs/tangs apart..be careful though.. the metal can break if bent too much! I have done this many times with success..and a few times with failure (tanks break)..I then tack welded it back and worked o/k afterwords!
