1967 GTO Disc Conversion advice (Scarebird related)
 

Hello All,

I currently have a 67 GTO with power 4 wheel drums (dual reservoir master). I'm thinking of going the scarebird route but I'm unsure if I should upgrade the fronts only or do all 4 corners. I'm also trying to determine what my total price will be out the door but I'm having difficulty locating a full parts list for all 4 corners.

I have a few different sets of wheels, a set of 17" as well as the stock Rallye II's (I think 15"). Is there a more performance oriented option over the above?

Is this my best bet for reusing the stock parking brake cable? What's involved in modifying the parking brake cable to fit?

What is used for a parking brake when using this kit instead?

Will I be able to reuse the booster I already have or will I have to get a new one along with the new master?

2 - 78 Monte Carlo rotors AX5530 from Auto Plus warehouse
2 - A-6 Bearings - need to find part numbers
2 - A-2 Bearings - need to find part numbers
2 - National Oil Seals PT# 8871
2 - 79 Seville brake hoses..... Dorman H9812
2 - 90 Celebrity calipers... L and R
1 Push Rod Boot - PT# R129TQ (may not need not sure if mine is bad)

Don't have any idea what's required of the rears yet. I'm actually surprised there isn't a full walkthrough of this kit on here, seems like it would be a very attractive option.

Try Vic at Control Cables for special park brake cables. Website is http://www.controlcables.com/ Did a nice job on park brake cables for me putting C6 brakes on my '67 GTO with Currie 9" from KORE3

Appreciate the reply! What's the time frame looking like for the new option? I'm not in a terrible hurry and would rather do it right the first time.

Kind of stinks about needing a new parking brake cable (I just put a new one in recently). Maybe I can sell it and recoup some of the cost.

Give Vic a call and describe what you need. He will have you measure between frame bracket and brake bracket at full suspension droop. If you have pics of the ends you need he will most likely know what you have and will put them on - will look just like OEM. His cables were awesome and less than $30 each. Good luck - very nice guy as well and helpful

Mark, what's the difference between the GTO B and GTO PF kits? They look the same to me.

MG, are you using the stock drum spindles? I've no idea if there is any difference between the 66 and 67 drum spindles. So far I can't find a part number for either year for the spindles. The Catalina spacer Mark sent me made a big difference in the clearance between the caliper brackets and the rotors up front. Keep that in mind when you do the conversion. Mark will know what I mean, and you can see it in the photos I posted. ;)

The guys at the Parts Store I hang out at were really impressed with my conversion in the end, and said that if anyone came into the store looking to do a conversion they'd be checking in with Mark, and would want them to see my results.

How would the cable need to be modified? Is a fitting mod or the cable itself?

Midnight, Old Goat 67 has the complete disc setup for the rear. Send him a PM if interested.

I've been asked why I didn't go with rear disc brakes. For me it isn't really necessary. The discs up front work just fine and the car stops great now. But that's just me and my thoughts.

How about the tall spindle conversion using wrecking yard Caprice spindles, 1LE camaro rotors and the common as dirt full size calipers? That used to be a very low buck and effective solution. And there are plenty of low cost options for the rear. Looks like Summit has several for about $350. Hardly even worth the time to go to a junk yard at that price.
