Turn Signal Switch
I have been chasing a problem for a while now on my 66 and think I narrowed it down.
Bought a "ebay" turn signal switch listed for the 66 and have not had brake lights or turn signals since I put the car back together. I believe after the power goes through the brake light switch it goes to the turn signal switch. So my big question is where to buy the correct turn signal switch? Is the one M&H sells correct? |

Hi Mike,
Just a suggestion. There are a couple NOS turn signal switches in the GM box on eBay. A little expensive, but they are the real deal. I have a spare switch just in case one of my cars needs one. Chris. |
Thanks, do you the best way to tell an original? Are they all blue and white? The one I bought was supposed to be a GM part.
Issue is I have front turn signals and have all running lights, just no brake lights and rear signals. Fuses are good and brake light switch is good. |
Try manually grounding the rear lights. Just a test to rule out the switch. Changing stuff in the column is a pain.

Lights have a separate copper ground to the chassis.
Ordered a Original Delco/GM switch today. Have the column and dash out so I might as well replace it. |

I know this is 4 years old but I was wondering if a different switch took care of the problem. I just installed a Shee-Mar switch in my 67 and have no brake lights or hazards but the turn signals work fine. My symptom was the brake lights wouldn’t work when the left signal was on, moving the lever up just a bit made the brake lights comeback on so I figured the switch was worn. Did an OEM switch fix yours? Thanks |

I had the same problem this week (on our '69) with the lever not returning all the way on LH turns causing the LH brake light to not work. Move the lever up and everything is fine. This was a one year old American Autowire switch. I replaced it with a AC-Delco switch yesterday and it works much smoother. Although I did have to swap the plug because it was different than my American Autowire harness. The old switch is in the pic, what happens is the metal shaft circled in red slides back and forth and caused to much friction as it wears into the plastic. The red circle is LH signal, the other end is RH The AC-Delco switch has less tension in the center and slides smoother so maybe less wear.
