Engine Builder
If you were going to choose a company to either build your engine or purchase a custom build from, would you use Butler or Tin Indian? They both seem to build excellent Pontiac engines.

My vote would be for a reputable local area builder...

Kauffman. Butler was too busy to even talk to me on the phone when I was calling around for quotes.

Thanks for the replies.
I just was putting the question out there at this point. I have my eye on a '69 428 and if I do move forward on it, then I will do more research. Butler and Kauffman are the two most prominent Pontiac builders and I know a couple of local guys that have Butler built engines that like them. There is a shop not too far from me that has a good reputation but doesn't specialize in Pontiac builds. I would speak with him first. |
do your own research!!!...then have an intelligent discussion with your local guy. This is NOT surgery nor is it Astro-physics....in fact there aren't too many things actually "NEW" to building a motor. With all that said...there are secret little things that PONCHOS NEED vs ...XXXX. A good mechanic (and probably machinist) and in-depth research will yield you a nice reliable project.
