Elmer's Graveyard Tour
 

Went over the Fountain City, WI yesterday to participate in the Elmer's Graveyard tour.

Elmer's is a salvage yard that recently held an auction of Elmer's private collection of cars back in September. The collection was very eclectic - Elmer had a Model A in his family room and everything from a Plymouth Superbird, a '69 Trans AM, a Royal Bobcat GTO and a Rolls Royce. Most of the cars were very low mileage. I'd been through the museum 3 times.

Previously, about 25 years ago, I walked part of the older section with Elmer and his son Brad looking for 16" factory rims for my '49 Caddy limo. Parts on my GTO came from Elmer's.

That '64 LeMans (2nd photo) in the post above was one of the donor cars for '64 GTO Convertible.

I really miss walking the old yards looking for buried treasure.

Do they still sell parts? That 62 Catalina hood looked to be in good condition. Would have to see the underside.

This is still a very active salvage yard. The "new" stuff is in a separate area from the good stuff.

Brad and Les are two of Elmer's 8 kids and currently own and operate the yard.

At the start of the tour, Brad emphasized that all vehicles and parts are for sale. He did suggest taking a photo of the vehicle and/or part you're interested in to make sure that everyone is talking about the same car/part.

wow what a goldmine...

It seems like there is a good of treasure left. Was the guy expensive or difficult to deal with? Funny that I had never heard about that yard.

If he was closer to Virginia, I'd wonder if that 62 was the one I owned. It looks like it might have or had a black painted top, as did mine, a tripower 4-speed car. Had it in the early 70's when in the Navy. Had to take it to a local junk yard (long story). Pulled the engine and trans before taking to junk yard, parted it out over the years but still have the block!

I've known these folks for over 25 years and when they had what I needed, I paid their asking price. Can't remember what I actually paid for what I purchased, but I don't like to 'overpay' for things so I must have thought it was reasonable.

Brad and his dad have/had been parts vendors at the Iola Old Car Show for decades. They do know what they have, so it's not going to be dirt cheap.

It was different this year at Iola, not being able to sit down with Elmer and chat, but Brad and I had a great talk.
