1965 389 What's it worth?
3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys I have a 65 389 that I pulled out of my 67 Firebird. I don't anything about the engine other than it's been trouble free for the 22+ years I've owned the car. It does have oil leaks and I did replace the timing chain about 20 years ago. Other then that she's a runner. I had it dynoed back in 2015 where it pulled 273.7hp / 358tq. I'm running edelbrock RPM intake Holley 750 and protronics ignition. I do have the cast iron intake but I don't know if it's original. https://youtu.be/UmKDccwIJpU

That is a YE code 325 hp 4-barrel 10.5:1 compression 389 with #76 heads from a big Pontiac equipped with a TH400 automatic.
Not particularly valuable because it’s not a GTO 389. The 389s really aren’t sought after unless they’re from a GTO, and even then it’s the manual transmission engines and especially the Tri-Power engines that people are looking for. Maybe $500 because it’s a good running engine, but a leaker as the majority of older 389s are. If it were mine and I had the room I’d keep it as a good running spare just in case. :) |
Some one that has a 69 or earlier engine in their car could use it as a temporary replacement to get their original engine redone. From my knowledge, the motor mounts should work from 69 to 65? Bart?
