Electrical Help Needed

Hey guys

So during the maiden voyage of my newly purchased 67 LeMans to Norwalk, the guys noticed when I had my left turn signal on that my brake lights didn’t work on either side. But with that right signal on they do.

I have replaced bulbs twice but don’t understand how one side can work and the other not. All other lights and scenarios work correctly, any ideas what to look for? I’m assuming there’s a short to ground but since the rear harness is all together I’m at a loss for where to start.

Thanks
Joe

What do the front turn lights do?

Thanks

The left signal light up but no brake light or no light on left at all?
Left works OK without brake pushed?

With key on or off, I have all brake lights. With key on I have right turn signal and brake lights, with key on I have left turn signal and no brake lights on either side.

When you changed bulbs was it both sides or just one side?

I'd start by checking the right side (or both sides really) for good ground on sockets. The bulbs are correct bulbs I figure, but check anyway.
Swap bulbs from one side to other side and see if it is the same.
(might even take one bulb out at a time and see what it does?)

If nothing, then may be the turn signal switch?

Probably one of those things that are hard to sleuth over internet.

If the bulbs and grounds are good, bulbs installed correctly, the prob then is most likely the turn signal switch.

Try wiggling the turn signal lever with left turn on. If you get a flicker out of right brake the turn signal switch needs some TLC or replaced.

PS this test should work with ignition off or on

You nailed it. With brakes on and left signal on if I pull up just a tiny bit the brake lights comes back on

We have a winner. Looks like some good old backyard modifications.
Think I’ll replace it 😆

Is this the correct switch for this car? Looking at Ames catalog they call out a floor shift switch as a p/n M140GR but it does not have the springs which are on the M140FR. This switch however says it fits column shift MT cars.
My car is pretty original and was built as a floor shift auto car.
Any help is appreciated
