Took a little cruise pulled in the garage and noticed a sound that seemed like rod knock.Noticed this crack on the lower pully

Very lucky you were able to get it home before it failed all the way and took out your radiator.

That’s sure aggravating but better than something internal.

Pulley

If you need a replacement I have like 6 of them, if you post the part # I'll take a look.

Dont mean to hijack this thread but having a hard time removing my lower pulley. It wouldnt pull off the balancer once I removed the four screws. Even the reinforcing ring wont come off. I currently have the balancer, pulley and reinforcing ring off the engine all as one unit, none of which will seperate. Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like it’s all rusted together .
If it’s not too badly cracked then
Put the bolts back in

Put the belts back on and tighten them up

Then back the bolts out 1/16” and start the motor.

The load force my be enough to bust it free.

If not then it time to drive a big ass chisel or pry bar behind the pulley to split it free off the face of the balancer.

Thks Steve. It looks like chisel is coming out as engine is out of car for a dipstick tube replacement. If you get bored pls wander over to the heating and cooling section for my water pump question as I have had a lot of looks but no replies.

Can this pulley be repaired by welding temporarily so I can race it ?

Just answered my own question about welding, after some more sanding around bolt holes. When was the last time you checked your lower pulley?

steve25 08-18-2024 11:22 AM

Looks also like rust pitting was involved in the start of the crack.

grandam1979 08-18-2024 12:03 PM

Did you have the support washed spacer in place when it cracked?

joes455 08-18-2024 12:47 PM

Yes and all bolts were tight when removed.Support bracket was installed in front of pulley

Heres what I have.

I wouldn’t weld it but if you do be sure to drill holes at the ends of the cracks
