Dci aluminum ra 4 heads
I saw some pics on Facebook this morning of some heads from Dci that are prototypes on the way to be machined with casting numbers 48,614 and 722,I didn't see the ports on the 614's and 722's but the 48's were Dport,he will have more info on his pod cast Wednesday night
|
I saw that also are they aluminum or cast?

That would actually be a nice market niche to fill. The Small Block Chevy crowd gets to enjoy reproduction factory heads with stock flow characteristics and chamber size, only difference being made in aluminum in order to benefit from weight savings and better thermal conductivity. Would be nice for people that want to do milder builds but don't want to fork out the $$$ for higher performance heads.

His latest post says 45 degree seats and shooting for 300 +cfm |
It's about damn time. I'm on board for a set. I've been saying for years they need to make copies of 614's/722's in aluminum that mimic the appearance of the factory offerings.

Out of the box as cast they flow between 260-270 cfm and are only a 170cc head, worlds better than a factory hump head that if you're lucky might flow 200-210 cfm, and that's a big valve version. Trick Flow also incorporates a more modern heart shaped chamber. They are super nice pieces for a stealth build ;) Hoping these new RAIV aluminum heads follow the same path, if so I'll be picking up a set. |
......and the paint won't burn off the exhaust ports.

I really hope I can get my hands on a set of the 722’s if they do become available. Does anyone know when we will get more info on these?

A lot of folks express interest in these heads.... I'm curious at what price point does your interest wane?

I would imagine they’re going to be priced similarly to competing aluminum aftermarket heads with similar specs.
And why would anyone expect them to be significantly less expensive than the current offerings from Kaufmann or Edelbrock? Here you have yet another choice of a high flowing modernized combustion chamber aluminum head with a different look that might be more in line with what many buyers with hot street cars would prefer. |
Questions
I’ve never owned Kaufman or E heads. Can you bolt factory brackets to them? I assume these will accommodate factory brackets for guys who want to keep it stock looking under the hood. (Like me) |
These are exciting, it’s about time someone makes a standard looking head for those of us wanting to retain a stock look under the hood!

Well, if they are priced "less" than the Edelbrock heads, which they should be as Eddy has been charging us extra for decades then these will sell. A lot IMO.
Maybe they will be priced around the same, small batch stuff ? But it is so nice to see this. If they can really go 300cfm as cast, more than a E head, look stock, we have a winner ! Hope they have more materiel in the right places so someone can wide port them. Maybe get some without the pushrod holes drilled. I see no shortage in Pontiac guys wanting to buy heads like these. He will sell far more of these than RAV heads. Thanks Don. |
I noticed there is no provision in the casting for spark plugs. Not that it is needed. But that may open up options for straight or angle spark plugs. All the modern chambers I am aware of use angle plugs. That would ruin the looks for some folks. Angle plugs are an easy give away for those in the know. I have a pair of Edelbrock D-ports with all the markings off them painted blue. About 1 in 100 at a show may pull a magnet or notice the angle plugs.

Stevie Wonder could tell those castings are much cleaner looking than any cast iron factory head, they’re not going to fool anyone once they’re painted.
Angle plugs should be incorporated surely, making them straight plugs makes absolutely zero sense. A nice looking head for sure and it will make the more purist type of performance guy happy, but if it offers nothing more than a casting number and to mimic the look of a factory head over their competition then they’ll miss the mark. |
