1965 GTO FIREWALL TAG QUESTION

1 Attachment(s)
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I was looking at my firewall tag yesterday and noticed a 3 digit number above the factory code. According to my restoration book, the picture of the firewall tag does not show any 3 digit code above the factory code. I have a 522 code above the BAL###### code. Any idea what this 522 code is. Pic of my firewall tag below.

Also have another question. There is a partial vin number in the trunk gutter on the passenger side or does this represent another number? If it is a partial vin, why does it not match my vin on the vin tag. May car was made in Baltimore and the number in my trunk gutter shows a "Z" for Fremont.

Thanks for your help

Mark

On my Baltimore build ‘65 it stands for the job number.

You'll see those partial 'VIN' numbers on all sheetmetal pieces. They're NOT the VIN but the body style number. If the same part fits a Tempest/LeMans/GTO (which most of them do) it will have the Tempest style number. There may or may not be a Julian week code on the stamp too.

The following is based on conjecture based on my Fremont built '68;
I thought the Z represents the Fremont Fisher Body stamping plant. But having a Z stamping on a Baltimore car makes me wonder. Did other Fisher body plants supply stampings to the various assembly plants?
I have also found the firewall on my car has a Chevelle style number. My guess it is was shared with Tempest

My Pontiac built '64 Lemans/GTO has the "Z" stamp on body panels, FWIW.

So now the question is, what does 'Z' represent?
