12 bolt interest. Wondering what this upgraded rear began as.
Is the cast date code in the lower right hand webbing of the center housing, or under the front edge facing the transmission? Thanks. |
If my memory serves me correctly, this unit was originally a 2.73 peg-leg out of a '71 El Camino. I can check on the code tonight and let you know for sure.

The stamped codes on the inside passenger axle tube are: KDC 132 1, which I believe translates to 2.73 open, Buffalo NY, May 12, 1971, first shift.
The casting codes on the lower webbing facing the transmission is GM G2 on the passenger side and 3969278NF on the driver side, which I believe is the code for '70-'72 car 12-bolt center sections. The cast date code is on the rearward facing passenger side lower web. It was too gunked up and dark outside for me to be able to clearly read it. |
