Removing carb paint
 

I have a Quadrajet that has been painted with Eastwoods carb renew. Outside of bead blasting, does anyone know of anything that will take the paint off?

Pinesol soak will pretty much strip everything off.

I'm guessing you've tried gerrymandering, and maybe brake fluid?

Thanks for the replies. I haven’t tried anything yet. I guess it is presentable just the way it is but it wasn’t the look I was wanting for the carb. I just didn’t want to make it look worse. I may disassemble it and dip it in pinesol or use some brake fluid and see what happens.

Yep, if you decide you want to strip it, you'll definitely need to fully disassemble and rebuild. It would be very easy for paint flakes that come off during stripping to find their way to someplace they shouldn't be.

The carb cleaner you soak the carb in has in the past removed paint. That is if they haven't changed the formular to make it friendly.

I have seen gasoline remove that stuff.

Odds are rattle-can carb cleaner will get most of it off.

Maybe just leaving it alone and putting the air cleaner on it so you can’t see too much of it would be the best and easiest option.

I mean if it needs to be gone through then yeah I’d probably do whatever was needed to put the proper finish on it.

But if it’s running fine leave it be, at least for me I would. There’s plenty of other things to worry about other than having the exact right finish on a carburetor at this stage of my life. :)

When I strip plastic or brass models I use fluid for Alcohol lamps and fortunately it come in gallon cans also.

If that Eastwood paint is a Epoxy type your only recourse might be walnut shell blasting.

Just to follow up on this thread, I was able to get the Eastwood carb renew paint off much easier than anticipated. I had some cmc throttle body cleaner on the shelf so I tried some to see what it would do. This will make the carb paint fall off instantly upon spraying the carb. While clearly not perfect, it looks much closer to stock in my opinion, which is what I was wanting.
