Engine stand rotator questions ,Any ideas?
I have my old ,50 year old engine stand, its home made HD but disassembles. I'm thinking of putting rotating assembly on it. Anyone do this and what did you use? I looked at HF hand winch with worm gears ,I'm not convinced they have quality gears. Thanks.

There’s a slack adjuster and s cam from rear truck brakes. Seems involved some but heavy duty.

Thank you. He didnt show engine on rotator though. Seemed easy without engine.

Ok thank you. I later looked and watched one with Ford power stroke.

Watching one story this morning. He bought those hd truck brake parts at NAPA. Each part,(2 parts) about $20.00. Turning a 1000 lb diesel engine. Thanks.

Engine stand

I bought this from HF. It has a 454 on it right now with a cast iron intake. I pulled the cover off and packed more grease in it. It will rotate the engine but you have to help it while cranking. Not perfect but a lot easier than a conventional engine stand. It's rated for 1500 lbs...I'll never test that :)

Bob. This HF worm gear winch could easily get transformed into an rotator for $35. The winch is rated at 2000# so it ought to turn a 700 # engine over/
https://www.harborfreight.com/2000-l...nch-63755.html Just a little welding and fabbing, you'll have yourself a manual rotator engine stand. Link to how one guy fabbed up his homemade rotator: https://www.hotrodders.com/threads/m...otator.523367/ Hit the (see more) tab above the first photo to see all the pictures, and steps. |
I saw someone use that winch I just thought looks a little light. 2 things, tire shop I hang out at owners wifes family own a large Mack dealership. Thinking talking to him for the brake oarts. When I moved 25 yrs ago I threw out a lot of 'junk' one item was a gear box from a steel over head door perfect size oh well that's life.
