1108436 vs. 1108435 starters
 

Other than the part number, what is the difference between the 1108436 starter and the 1108435? I have a ram air III but finding a 1108436 starter is impossible or costs almost as much as my car. Forget about finding a correct date for my car's build. At this point I'm more interested in function than matching component numbers.

IIRC the 436 uses a different solenoid that has metal housing, weaker return spring and a heat shield.
Otherwise the electrical design and specs are the same.

My reply was going to be in essence what Kenth shared;
Pretty much the exact same starter, only a different high(er) heat solenoid.

I have done searches looking for suitable solenoids...

If you're not too worried about numbers or date, that might be understood to be a small departure from the following suggestion:
I have heard only good things about the small bodied starters.

Any luck finding a suitable solenoid?

I had a hot start problem on my 69 Z28. I tried a new starter and a couple of new solenoids, including one claiming to be heavy duty for hot starts. No change. I bought a NOS GM solenoid spring and installed it and that seemed to do the job.

I seemed to hit a brick wall on finding IF GM even made a replacement legitimate solenoid for the original 1114348;

I am unsure if 'Standard' still makes theirs - but I believe that theirs was SS200X
