Gasket for rear tail light 66 Catalina
 

Looking for what the group is using to seal rear tail light housings to the body on 66 Catalina. I am contemplating using duct seal and then removing what squishes out. The material does not harden and to my knowledge does not affect paint.

I don't have a better suggestion for the housing-to-body mounting (considerably different on my '63). Your thought sounds like a reasonable approach to me.

Metro Moulded Parts lists the tail light lens gaskets for the '66, in case this is something useful for you:

Not cheap by any stretch, and I have no idea as to how well these fit, but Metro is a reputable company.

Yes I saw those. I originally thought they were the body gaskets but realized they were for the lenses. I have a set of NOS tailights and was disappointed they did not come with the gasket installed since it is a tar based type gasket. I also thought about using the material to install the vapor seal on the door panels since it is sticky.

i beaded black silicone around it and waited till it dried then installed

Indeed odd that they didn't come with the seals, if NOS.

I was going to suggest either silicone rubber or even form-a-gasket (I don't know that we specifically would want the goo "sticking" the tail lamp to the body of the car vs a well-seated solution which allows for potentially removing the assembly and replacing it - think "plumber's putty").
