Swept Oil Filter Adapter?
 

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is I am looking for..... I'm familiar with the standard 90 degree and the angled oil filter adapters, but I'm pretty sure I have seen pictures of one that angles the filter rearward as well. Perhaps used with long branch exhaust manifolds?

I'm doing an installation of a RA-IV in my '63 Tempest that will require custom exhaust manifolds/headers and I think a swept oil filter might help with exhaust clearance.

If this exists, is it a complete housing, or just an adapter that sandwiches between a normal housing and the block?

I've since learned that there are two versions of these adapters - one for F and X bodies with long branch and one for full-size cars with long branch. It appears the F/X body version is thinner and doesn't move the housing out as far toward the frame. I was able to locate one of these and order it. I do still need to locate a straight 90 degree filter housing to use with it.

yes it is a adapter that goes between the block and your oil filter adapter.For your 63 get the first gen version.The early big car one is too thick for the tempest.Tom

The first and last have been modified for some reason.The factory first gen used a block. With a thin plate and used 2 gaskets.The current ones just use the block.Tom

All of the photos are of the same part. Did SD421 engines use adapters like this?

I know the HO engines used it but don’t remember if the SDs did.Tom

The one piece is supposed to be better
But of course if you’re doing a restoration (like I am ) you need to find the 2 piece. . If anyone has one for 69bird let me know.
I hear the 2 piece is a pain and can cause issues.
I’ve had a 1 piece on my car for decades without any issues .

Idk if RARE still has them but pretty sure they had the one piece ones.
