Hi everyone,my question of the day is: What kind of rack and pinion should I get for a1969 Gto ,and do you think it is a good idea.One more thing ,one that don't break the bank?Thank you,Tim

Rack and Pinion in a stock frame A-Body is a no-go. The bumpsteer the system creates is incredibly bad. You trade some upgrade in steering feel, for much worse handling.

If you're looking to spend that kind of money, give Lee Power Steering or Turn 1 a call and have a really nice steering box built for your application. You'll get 90-95% of the steering feel you are after without degrading the handling performance of the car.

Since it seems like you're on a bit of a budget as well. I would spend the money to rebuild the entire steering system, including call joints, tie rod ends, drag link and idler arms. I'd then look at the Borgeson steering gear, which is still a budget friendly part compared to the high end Lee or Turn 1 product.

One thing that is often over looked is front end alignment. A good shop can do wonders for the way your car handles by being creative.

I second a good alignment-often factory A arms will not allow enough positive caster for good feel either.

As the others stated, a R&P is not really the path to go down, a well setup RB front end will perform equally well.

The biggest hurdles of the early A Body is, as another member said, getting more positive Caster in the steering.

For a daily driver with some good fun the targets are:
Alignment Specs
Camber: 0 to -1 degree
Caster: 4 to 6 degrees
Toe: 1/16” to 1/8” toe in

Moving to a Taller Spindle and upper control arms is the first step to this.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I've decided to go with stock linkage,just having a hard time putting it together.I can't seem to get everything to go together.Have everthing out now to start over.Center link rides over front crossmember.Thanks guys i'll get it figured out sooner or later.
