Spot welders 110 vs 220 ?
 

Any one here using spot welders ? What do you like about yours have they worked well ?
110 vs 220 volt

Any thoughts appreciated.

The vevor model had a lot of complaints about breakers popping but that could be people on knob and tube wiring still

The 220/240 is nice for that reason but limits where you can use it.

I'm also interested in hearing some opinions. I have two MIG welders, but I've been wanting a dedicated spot welder.

The issue I have with “cheap” spot welders is the fact that there’s a micro switch under the handle you squeeze that turns it on. So it’s on as long as you’re squeezing the issue arises as the well puddle is still molten when you release and the weld pulls apart.

I had one of them and was very unhappy with the quality.

I know the USA weld quick spot II welder is $$$ but it has been amazing. It allows you to set the amount of heat and the duration. So you squeeze the handle, which starts it and the timer shuts it off while you’re still squeezing the panel together so when you release it is cooled already. It also seems to have more squeeze force than the cheapie ones.I also purchased several of the different tongs. Oh and the one I have is 220 V I just made an extension cord and I can go anywhere with it.

Good info a bit pricey especially for the amount of times I’d need it but maybe watch for that set up in a cheaper version see if it exists. If I had a shop and was doing a lot of spot welding I’d be happy ti spend it because they last a long time. I bought my mig welder in the 90s still going strong

Sounds like this one has timer. Seems similar . Would rather not buy china stuff but for the amount of use vs price.

That does look like it has the same functionality. I would definitely step up to at least that one over the simple “on while you are squeezing” models.

Thanks for the info Stan so many parts , so may tools needed for these cars feel like you have to save a buck when you can or you never get them all done.

I have a 220 model, not that brand, but similar. I have used it for sheet metal work and it works well for that purpose. I have not tried 1/8" thick sections yet, tho .

They are heavy,I have used it on a benchtop, may be more difficult to manipulate around a car.

I bought the 220v one from HF. I have to say, once you get the feel of it and how long to hold the weld time, it works great. Obviously, the longer the hold time, the more weld penetration. Reach is more of the problem but with a little ingenuity, you can make things work.
