Big hole in carb bracket?
 

The big hole, about 1/2" diameter, in a Holley carb throttle shaft bracket...

Is this big hole used often, or ever, for the throttle linkage? Is there a bushing that goes there for a rod system?

I ask because I am exploring options on where to attach my throttle rod. I tried converting my 67 Firebird from stock rod setup to a cable, and was unhappy. Now I am going back to stock-ish. My FiTech has a big hole, and a small hole on the bracket. The small hole requires a lot of pedal pressure because it is a closer radius to the throttle shaft. The big hole is farther away.

Anybody out there using that hole, and how did you do it? Thanks.

Chevrolet linkage uses the large hole. There is a rubber bushing that fits the hole, with a nylon bushing inside the rubber bushing.

Some throttle brackets use the hole for a front mounted return spring. I have one in my 66.

Holley used to make a kit that had all the hardware, but forget what the were called. I think they broke it down into several kits bc of the cost of the all inclusive kits.

Some cars/truck had solid rod-type linkage, and those I believe also used that attachment point. Cars that needed max travel I guess.

Used for a no-bind return spring mount. This is how the 4150 came set up on the '67 LeMans I bought. I like it once I got used to how it works.

Ok, was wondering why there would be 2 bushings sold in a group. Searched on 67 Camaro.

I definitely needed the rear bushing, didn't know there was a front bushing setup. Says the grommet/bushing is for many GM applications back to the 50's

I just stopped at a local Ace hardware store and found a few nylon bushings and spacers that might work, too.

I DID find grommet and nylon bushing parts that fit my gas pedal lever hole, with a little shaping. The same grommet that fits back there fits the big hole.

I measured the distance of a qjet throttle stud from the shaft, and it was a 1.5" radius. There is a hole on my fitech that was in the same place, but too small. So I drilled it out to 1/4" so the rod would fit, and success!

I now have an OER grommet/bushing as a spare.

Throttle movement is now silky awesome, and gets full travel. Sometimes, impatience can be a benefit.
