PHS question for 68
1 Attachment(s)
I have a friend that has a 1968 GTO convertible and has received the PHS documentation for this Baltimore built GTO. For some reason the engine id and the transmission id both are showing all zeros in both locations. Has anyone ever seen this before and if so what would the explanation be for this?
Thanks RG |
The trans field is blank and the engine number is all zeros on the PHS-provided billing card for my Framingham-built ‘68 GTO. Didn’t think these two fields were used anymore on the billing history by ‘68.

I know the Firebird in Lordstown had them. Possibly the non-full Pontiac plants did that? (combined chevy and Pontiac plants)
Well, checked a couple Pontiac and Fremont had them. Maybe just Baltimore and Arlington? |
On my Kansas City built 68, the bhs for engine number and transmission number are blank.

68
I know 1968 was the first year for engine partial VIN stamps, therefore, the EUN wouldn't be needed??
|
My Kansas City built 68 Gto has blanks for both engine and transmission.
|
Thanks for your response
Thanks to all for your response I am guessing that because the serial numbers were stamped on the engine block pad that they did not do them.
Thanks again RG |
My 68 GTO was born 11/22/67 in Pontiac Mich, and my paper work has the ID. numbers for my car.

My Fremont 68 didn't have the EUN or trans ID. Just blank spaces
|
What's the body date?
I checked about all I have and this is what I found: Baltimore had EUN printed thru Oct 1967 after seemed to be zero's Pontiac had them Lordstown had them Arlington had them Fremont had them ; Some had partial EUN with leading engine code (except OG68 above) Baltimore did not after Oct 67 Van Nuys did not Kansas (K) did not Canada did not Framingham did not (didn't have many of these) |

I guess there is always one in the bunch.
:D I have one on each side of that date with the EUN. Probably around 64xxxx EUN. HD 3 speed on the floor? :) |
Yep. The only options were;
AM Radio Remote Mirror Goodyear Radial Tires (205R14) |
I have PHS documents for two Framingham built cars. One is a Feb. 1968 built '68 car that has all zeros for the engine unit number and blank for transmission unit. The other is an Oct. 1968 built '69 car. The engine unit number on the billing history matches the last four digits stamped on the block below the head plus the engine code (YS) and the transmission unit number is blank.

My 68 Fremont built Oct 1967 has both engine and trans numbers on the billing sheet.
|
Just checked my 68 Firebird it has the engine numbers but trans is blank.
