Wiggling steering column
 

My steering wheel column on my 77 lemans is very wiggly. I'm going to have the steering wheel off to change the key, and I was just wondering which bushing could be causing this. The tilt is locked and it still rocks. Thanks Andrew

The 4 bolts deep in the column are probably loose. You have to go deeper than just the key. A little time consuming but easy just sitting in the driver seat.

My 70 El Camino and 77 Chevy pickup both had that problem.
Open up the column and tighten the screws.

I agree and I always use red loctite on the 4 little screws

You mean for the turn single switch? All I need to do is get the lock plate off and I'm in there. What else needs to be done? I figured I get this done while replacing the key.
Also any good hints on how to get the snap ring to the lock plate off i have the tool that compresses the plate.

Long thin blade screwdriver for the snap ring. Pry up between ring and column housing.

You need to pull the signal switch up and out of the way to access the four hex headed screws that hold the bearing housing.

No I meant the 4 screws that hold the bearing housing, There is a cheap lock plate removal tool available that pushes down the lock plate make it easier to remove the snap ring ( or C-clip ) it also makes it easier to reinstall.

I have a couple of them and they do make the job easier. But not absolutely needed.

So I was working on the car today got everything all torn apart helps to have the little plastic shield off before trying to dig at the snap ring. Got down to the ignition, and tried tighten the bolts. All of them were tight? What would you recommend.?

Sorry ment screws I'm going to throw everything back together except for putting in the lock plate. An look into fixing it later.

Update she needs a column simple as that
