1970 T/A stripe placement
 

Car is almost ready for paint and I have a question on the placement of the rear deck lid stripe between the rear edge of the stripe and the top of the spoiler? I need to figure out what the gap is between the forward edge of the deck lid and the forward edge of the deck lid stripe. Also what is the gap on the rear spoiler between the rear edge of the stripe and the top edge of the spoiler? Using the Stencile and Stripes decals for this car. Thanks.

The Stencils and Stripes kit comes with the old Pontiac drawings with key measurements from various other features.

For the trunk lid I first install the spoiler stripe centered on the spoiler left to right and wrapped under the front edge of the spoiler the specified .30 inches in the middle. I use a laser to give me a center reference and plenty of masking tape with pencil marks for when I peel the backing, apply my gel and start to place the decal.

Then I place the spoiler on the trunk lid without fastening it down and place the trunk lid decal without removing the backing yet so that it is centered on the trunk lid left to right and the lines on the trunk lid decal line up with the spoiler decal and slid .30 inches under the spoiler in the middle. I use plenty of tape and marks on the tape so I can line things up without guessing once I've peeled the backing off.

I like the Phoenix Graphics products to help apply the stripe. Their Pre-app cleaner, Slide-on gel and Slide-over protectant products are really good. I've tried dawn detergent and water mix in a spray bottle, but I like the slide-on gel better. I think it gives more working time and when dealing with these big decals having time to position them and work out the bubbles is well worth it. Small bubbles are OK since this gel is designed to evaporate through the decal, so they disappear after a few days. I learned to never poke holes in the decal at the bubbles. Not needed and it can leave a visible mark.

S&S will send you this sheet with dimensions. My interpretation is 1" down from the top of the spoiler, and 1" down from the forward edge of the trunk lid to the stripe. This will match the roof stripe 1" dimension.

TA455HO tree'd me! He has excellent instructions to help with installation.

And before anyone says anything the hood has been sitting like that for years and no damage to the paint or bends in the hood.

Lower left corner of that first drawing shows to tuck decals under the spoiler .30 inches - that's what I went with.
