Seat belt covers
This might be a dumb question but has any replaced their seat belt covers, I have a 67 and I thought the buckle would fit thru the new cover but it doesn't.Any good ideas?

You have to disassemble the retracting mechanism down to bare bones, remove the belt from the reel and feed it through the cover. That method is alot easier that cutting the stitching at the male end, removing it, pulling the belt through, and restitching.

With the belt/retractor out it is possible to warm the plastic cover enough to use a wide blade tool,
gently spreading the slot open just enough to manipulate the the tongue end through the opening. Try it on an old cover to get the feel. If you don't think it's going to work then the complete disassembly is suggested. Its a PITA but can be done. GO SLOW. |
Hmmm, never knew this was an issue on '66 - '67. I've always been able to angle the tongue through the retractor cover opening on my GM cars.

I ended up taking the retractable unit all apart,it wasn't to bad of a job,
I took apart an old spare one and put it back together to figure out how it worked |
