Water pump leak
 

Well things were going too smoothly! 428 swap was going well. Filled up with antifreeze today. It started dripping out where the water pump meets the intake. My guess is the gaskets are just dried out. I saw no signs of anything before. I checked all the bolts and everything is tight.

I guess everything is coming off the front so I can fix this. Ugh. Not complicated but a pita. I just got everything on! lol

I’m wondering if I should replace the water pump while I’m in there? I have no reason to believe there is a problem but…

The round seal? hey are hard. I Silicone both sides, Loosen intake just so it can move a little. If Water Xover is separated form intake, but loosen that. Tighten all the other water pump bolts, then tighten the WP to Intake bolt. Then tighten intake back down

Now I’m wondering if taking off the intake is easier, or the more appropriate route?

Pull the intake. It will pull forward using the transfer bolt and seal the donut. The timing cover won't do that. agree on light coat of gray silicone on both sides of donut gasket.

Reseal and run it. I'd take the pump off by itself

Agreed- if it isn’t leaking at timing cover/intake seal, why disturb that

Well I pulled the intake. Water crossover was super gooked. Not surprised it was Leaking. I cleaned it up, as well as the intake and heads. Will put it all back together tomorrow and try again!

New donut rubber gasket, use right stuff each side of that gasket.
