1979 - A/C Receiver Drier / Accumulator
 

Hi - Working on the 1979 trans am originally with the Olds 403 and restoring the A/C to stock or original. When I ordered the drier / accumulator, it gave me Four Seasons # 33205. When I did the install, it is noticeably shorter at 7" than the original and does not sit into the factory bracket.

I am sure the original part number has been superseded multiple times but wondering if anyone has had the same issue? Or would Four Seasons # 33204 would work since its length is 9" and looks identical? Or Four Seasons # 33176 (off 80-81 turbos)? Thanks!

I have a 78, it has a aftermarket one on now, due to being uncharged for a few years, I sent my og one to Miami to a guy, he cut it apart and acid dipped it then put a new bag in and rewelded it, pulled pressure on it and capped it, it’s going back on one day, I do have old Four Seasons books if yiu need me to look up something.
The one on my car now must be shirt, the bracket is off. I have it.

I did not know you can repair or refurbish them, thank you. Glad i did keep the original. Previous owner even 'polished' it to a mirror finish.

I bet you have the 33205 at 7" then. Thats what all the catalogs say fit for the application but its too short to sit in the bracket as mentioned.

No rush, but if you ever find the part number for the 'a/c pressure hose assembly' it would be most appreciated. Just curious what the number is as it has disappeared from all records...

I was able to actually speak with the technical support at Four Seasons / Hayden and he at least sounded very knowledgeable.

He confirmed that part # 33204 will work instead of the # 33205. The main difference is the switch port locations and length; which is the original issue. If you look at the OEM part numbers for each, they do share a lot of the same original part numbers.

I used the same and it worked well, just be careful that lower tube can spin when trying to install hose. Of course you do not want to crank down on the fitting anyway but when vacuuming down system it was leaking there both times. I finally bought this sealant just to be sure I had no more leaks it is called nylog

Thanks - I actually saw that on Home Depot's website. Glad to know it works, will check it out.

Update - I received 33204 and although it is a little longer, 7.5 vs. 7, still short of the original. Old Air Products offers one on their page, 21-1249 - Accumulator, that might be worth a try.
