400 block question
2 Attachment(s)
I got this 70’ 400 block from a friend who passed away he ran super stock does this look like it has been O ringed or sleeved?
|
Those round circles look like o-ring grooves?
Are they a groove or just marks left from a gasket? What is the engine code for the block? |

They are raised grooves from what I can tell the block has been machined at some point.
|
If they are raised it probably is sleeved?
Usually they are milled flush with block. |
Looking at the underneath pic, it could be sleeves. They will not fill the bore all the way to the end usually.
Is there a step at the bottom? |

Looks like my O-Rings. My block had also been sleeved in one cylinder and that stepped space on the bottom looks same. Make sure you remove the o-rings and save them when you hot tank the block.

does that one have 4 bolt caps or 2? looks like its a ceapshoot with that casting 400.
|
Looks like they do have step at the bottom and the o rings are raised slightly. It is a 4 bolt 400 block
|
What are your opinions on a sleeved block for street use?
|
I have no problem with them. If done right.
