Correct 4 speed shifter with console?
 

My ‘67 GTO came with an aftermarket Hurst shifter and it does not work with a console. I want to add the console back to my car since it had one from the factory. I’ve seen several ‘67 GTO shifters listed on eBay, but I want to be sure I get the correct one. Will other years fit or is ‘67 a unique year? I always assumed ‘64 - ‘67 would work since they used the same console, but I see some listed as ‘65 - ‘66 and some as ‘67 only.

I don’t have the exact part number of the ‘67 handle, but they have this mild bend with the HURST name.

65/66 have the base of the handle integrated into the shifter mechanism. The 67 handle slides in and is removable without taking the whole thing apart.

So I assume the ‘65 - ‘66 one would work on my car? I don’t care so much about originality - I just want it to work. The console opening is so small that seems that the shifter has to have a pretty tight pattern.

Were the shifters for console and non-console cars different?

An associated question i hope... are the '67 consoles, (3 speed and 4 speed) the same? I have a '67 3 speed console (Lemans Sprint) and '67 4 speed GTO.

'65-66 Pontiac A-body had different shaped shifter sticks for Console or Non Console applications.

Production '67 Pontiac A-body Hurst shifter went to the "stab in" bayonet style stick. This year was separated into sticks for either bucket seat or bench seat application.

The chrome shifter stick used for that "67 bench seat Pontiac A-bodies was the same shape from '67-70. For '71 & 72 Pontiac A-bodies , buckets seat & bench seat used the same shifter stick (4555).
