I fixed the problem by adding a Chrysler resistor block on the firewall. Later when i did
a frame off on the car around...

I believe there was a short period where the alternators were externally regulated but had the connector on top and not in the rear. that must be what you have.

is the internal regulator style of alternator that was introduced on Pontiacs in 1973, but
I can't say for 100 percent...

Regarding the alternator it is a later model version because in 69 the two small exciter
wires plug into the back of the case , not the top of the case. That looks like a mid 70's style alternator.
