I have always heard that '69 T/A hood springs were thicker and stronger due to the heavier hood and ram air set up. I'll see if I can find anything that points this out in my '69 Service Manual.

The bolts are stops for the stick, so yes in a sense they adjust the throw. Hope you have all the correct shift rods and mounting plate for the firebird - this stuff is not universal...
