Installing the rocker trim isn't all that difficult. You pretty much hang the top of the moulding on the clips and push downward to flex the moulding onto the bottom of the clips.
You can protect the paint by using a strip of thin plastic shim material or thin cardboard under the bottom of the clips.
Honestly, these cars look ugly without the rocker trim in place. Yes, it will reduce the value to anyone who knows anything about these cars. Put it on yourself or pay an experienced bodyman to do the job.
