I know that you said that you did not want to do a rebuild now, but if the motor is out, I would replace the bearings and rings. Doing that, the crank is out and the BOP seal installation is a no brainer. I put one in my motor, and I don't think that it can be done without pulling the crank. I could be wrong, though.
