Nothing "wrong" with the Performer intake and carb. Go take a look at the carb base and tell us if you see a metal plate sandwiched in-between two gaskets??? Just a hunch, but that square-bore to spead-bore adapter plate is required or you'll have a big vacuum leak, which will require lots of timing, cause the car to over heat due to a real lean condition, and so on, and so on... Also look at the carb and make sure all the vacuum ports are either plugged or hooked up correctly. Like the big brake booster one on the back and the PCV inlet on the front. With the vac can you have you will want ported - passenger side if memory serves - but get a vac can with 10 degrees or less if possible. You have way too much timing on that thing.
