well i think it would still heat the air up, since air is an 'object' if u will, however you are correct otherwise in the sense that 'radiant' heat is not what we're used to (convection or conduction) where heat has to transfer more or less physically by two things touching or a gas touching something.
point of the story: i think the air gets hotter too but that doesn't change your point at all!
