autometer has a plastic universal mounting pod that is "enclosed" on 4 sides - top / bottom / L / R, basically like the metal ones with a skirt about 2 to 2.5" extending back. that may work for you in attempts to keep the back side of them from being seen.

i think it's supposed to mount on top of the dash, but you could flip it so it's upside down and mount where HWY has his and get the same result. it's flat faced, but you may have enough room for the angle adapters.
of course it would take some custom fabbing, fun with a dremel and/or sandpaper.....
edit - ooops, never mind. i see its NOT flat faced, there's a slight angle to the holes, and if you flip it upside down they'll be facing slightly away from you....so angle adapters would be REQUIRED to at least get them facing straight, if not canted towards the driver.
