Had problems when removing a '70 400 to install a later 455 on Father-In-Law's '77 TA. The '70 block had those aftermarket adapter brackets for early blocks in later chassis. The 455 came from some full-size station wagon. We could shove the cross-bolt through either one of the clamshell cushions, but not both bolts.

Discovered that the F-body uses shorter brackets than the full-size cars from the block to the "clamshell" rubber cushion.

Bought proper F-body block-to-cushion brackets, and all was well.
