No kidding. I think the reasons for that are that even though it was bent, it was very stable/solid in its new configuration and it appeared to be still making good enough approximation to the distributor terminals.

When I install the new cap and rotor, I'll have to adjust the timing. I'll start by retarding it approximately the same amount as the bend and go from there.
