Best thing to do if you want to go back stock is to do the RARE full pulley setup, and use an 11 bolt cover. That's the best you can do with a V belt setup. And you are limited to a 140a alt. Toss a hydroboost in there and the load increase, and you are back to square one.
No coating, blasting, sanding, etc on OE pulleys is going to work, just make it worse. No spray no 'better belts' nothing, it's all exceeding the original design, which was marginal at best straight of the assembly line. Those times used 60-80a alts, and it was still a struggle to get the belts to grab.
Tighten the belt to get more grab and cook the alt and/or water pump bearings. It's a roller coaster.
