Default Firewall hole

Does anyone know that the largish hole near the trans tunnel (yellow arrow) is for on my '66 w/AC? When looking at the photos I took of my car during disassembly, the only thing passing through this hole was an oil hose for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, which of course was not original to the car. There wasn't even a rubber grommet of any type installed - just an open hole. Any ideas what it was originally used for?

The hole with the green arrow is for passing accessory wires through, although on my car it originally had a solid plug without any holes or wires passing through.
