For steel lines, you have to use the steel compression fittings, the typical aluminum compression fittings don't work, or don't work good or for long.

The steel ones I use are the Aeroquip Versa-Flare fittings, which are specifically made for use with steel line, or just use aluminum lines with the 'regular' aluminum compression fittings.

The Versa-Flare fittings are JIC, so you need to take care when mating with AN fittings. (Just have to make sure they assemble correctly) If you shop them, they are not expensive.

Steel does work harden, just to say. Just keep an eye on them I guess.

I run my lines up on the firewall. Running it to the front of the engine makes no sense to me either!

When transitioning from a non-moving area to a moving one, use flexible line, common sense thing, but figured I mention it.

You say Edelbrock mounts the crossover for the fuel rails in back? I'm not following? You can put the crossover anywhere you want, and the regulator, as long as it's on the return side of the system. I thought the fuel rails have the same thread on both ends?
