coat hooks
Did the 65 hardtop use one or two coat hooks? I don't remember how many I took off but I only have one.

Mine only has one. That's certainly not the final word, but it's what I'd bet is correct.

My 64 hardtop with original headliner, built in February at the Freemont plant has only one, located on the drivers side. Thanks for posting the question as it was on my mind also. It would be interesting to know if there was a reason why some cars have one and others two such as the plant where manufactured, optional equipment, etc. The reason I mentioned having the original headliner is that a friend who restored a 65 added a second coat hook after replacing the headliner, thinking that was how it was supposed to be.

For what it is worth, my 66 is Fremont built (01B) and only has "one" coat hook on the LH side.

I replaced what was left of the original headliner 30 yrs ago and never reinstalled the hook[s]. I am now replacing the headliner again and figured this would be the time to mark the hook locations. I'll check my dads 66 to see how many it has.

What they did get and what they should have gotten can be two different things.
According to the '66 Parts Catalog all '41 up Pontiacs are shown as using (2) coat hooks per car EXCEPT for Convertibles. It looks like Convertibles did not get Coat Hooks until the '65-'66 Convertibles which are listed as using (1) per car. No distinction is given between Tempests and big Pontiacs. The '65-'66 convertible also lists a different p/n compared with all the others, 4895704. The others all show 4840719. This p/n seems to have been very common for GM cars thru '66, always indicating 2 per car from what I noticed. |

Our 65 has the original headliner; 1 coat hook. Car was built in Pontiac. I have wondered this question for a while!

I had looked thru the SCNs, scanning the indexes, but missed that one. Was looking for "Coat Hook" in the alphabetical list, never saw the listing for "R.H. Coat Hooks". Settles it for me. I'm still going with no coat hook for the '64 convertible (Lemans or Tempest Custom) unless somebody knows differently? |

Just thought I'd include a photo of the arrangement for the optional second coat hook above the headliner. The first photo is of the right (passenger, optional) side, the second photo is of the left side with screw inserted. |

Hmmm. Dealer must have installed a passenger side one in ours because it had two when we tore it down. Fremont built in July 1964. I now kind of regret installing the passenger side one during the restoration.

66 HTs had 2 coat hooks..... right and left side. My 1st 66 GTO, the 66 Tempest Custom, and this 66 GTO all had/have 2. 63 GP had two also.
Goatman65, I say it's just missing on passenger side of your dad's 66 HT, and needs one for the right side. It the first 66 HT I've ever heard of that only had one, on the driver's side.
