is it normal for original dist to be very hard to pull out.i am having hard time must use pry bar and still tough.yes bolt and hold down plate are removed
 (replacing with hei unit it was very hard as well) any tricks to getting this out with out damaging it? thks

I have had some so galled in that it took a pipe wrench to remove them. They broke apart taking them out.

Can of good quality spray carb cleaner....
Berryman, Gumout, STP, K&W, etc. |

As Sun Tuned said plus keep twisting it and spraying it. Once it starts coming up a little spray some more ,twist some more. It'll come out.

Take your time. The last time I got in a hurry with one broke the shaft andhad to take it out one piece at a time. Not fun.

 I was at a junk yard once, was purchasing a 428 but the distributer wouldn't come out, they were going to charge me for the distributer. I lifted the whole engine up by that darn distributer and it still wouldn't come out. They wanted like 32 bucks and I was on a budget. So here is the engine hanging by the distributer and me with a big hammer. It finally came out but they lost 32 bucks because it was a pile of parts all over the place when I got done.Wrong oil will sludge the bottom of the distributer causing it not to come out. Good luck
