Hello again. My 67 GTO has a 68 #7082268 Rochester quadrajet on it. The 67 Carter quadrajet, that was on it, has on the "coin" #7027262. I threw on the 68 because the accel plunger died in the 67. A friend will sell me his spare kit for a 68, but it is listed to be different than the 67 and I don't want to open his kit if I can't use it. I have a couple broken kits for a 67, but no plunger and apparently the days of buying a plunger seperate, are long gone. Are the 67 and 68 plungers different? What are the differences in the 2 carbs? I never have had a choke, but as I recall, they are different but what about the insides? Also, my 67 has a pressed in float valve seat, the kits all have screw in ones. Where can I get a replacement and what is the correct way of replacing one? Thanks again for any info, Karl.

Short answer - the kits are different.
Long answer. Accelerator pump carb 7027262 is part 7032245 Accelerator pump carb 7027268 is part 7035829 Also needle and seat; and gaskets differ. Remember that the 1967 was the first Pontiac 8 to use the Q-Jet. 1968 was the first year of federal smog emission. The 1967 Q-Jet is a 1 year only with very little interchange with anything else. Items I can think of that interchange - check balls, jets, throttle valves (but not the shafts), and the screws that hold the carb together. Most everything else is different. Jon. Good carburetion is fuelish hot air.

Thanks for the info Jon. Guess I will have to go buy a kit, but do you know of any replacements for the pressed in seats?
Thanks again, Karl. |

These people sell individual pieces for quadrajets and other carbs. They're a little pricy, but if you only need one part, then it probably makes sense: http://www.quadrajet.com

Thanks for the info on the carb place. I went and punched in the #s for the 68 kit and the 67 kit and they came back with the same rebuild kit #s. The only thing I would actually need is the rubber skirt for the accelerator plunger. The one email showed 2 different #s for the whole plunger, but I am wondering if it is the length of the shaft that's different and not the diameter of the hole? If the holes are the same, then I can use the 68 kit.
Oh well, Thanks again, Karl. |
