Anyone know what the valve lenght is with these heads? Just wondering if they will be using custom lenght valves or if there are valve already out that will fit.

Good question slowbird. I was just wondering that myself. What's the deal with valves Bob?

valve length? Bob C. has the answer but it seems like 5.5 or better? I bet some people will be using springs good for .800 lift. As far as valve availability, look at a valve catalog some time, valve maker, not valve reseller, a zillion sizes in large, extra large, and really big.

guess the valve length will be around 6.400"?
pontiac prostock is 6.450" exhaust and 6.600" intake. don't know if there is another application that is close.

My turn! I have now been to see Bob and looked over the raw casting he has at his shop. While I was there, he got a call from a potential customer, that asked me (Bob put me on the phone 'cuz the specific question he couldn't answer, concerning hood clearance) if the head compared to the E-head or Super Chief. All I can say is "no". There's no comparison. The only head that comes to mind in comparing the design features, is the Dart "Big Chief" for BBC. The intake runners are modern, not based on Pontiac design.
There is no doubt, this head will work. It is, however, a RACE head, requiring all the "fitment" other race-only parts (for most engine families) require. If you're looking for "bolt on" power, look elsewhere. If you're hunting big block Chevys, this is the head! Them cowpokes are gonna HATE this Injun! FWIW |

Quote from Mr. P body: "If you're looking for "bolt on" power, look elsewhere.’’
The cylinder Head is 1 1/4 inches taller then a stock head. With adapters, traditional Pontiac intakes will bolt on. With the standard exhaust port, Pontiac exhaust manifolds or headers can be bolted on. This applies to both round and D port heads.

Sorry, Bob. My intent was that it is a RACE head for real, not a warmed over street design. I didn't think you intended it for direct competition for Edelbrock or the KRE D-port. I see it as at a much higher level. I feel, like Big Chief, it will be best on custom-built race engines, especially large cubes at high revs. I wasn't trying to say it can't be used. We know people that have KB hemi heads on "street" engines...
Of course, Dude will want a pair for his blower-motor! I suppose it all boils down to what is a "bolt on" part, a "street" part or a "race" part. Everyone can have their own definitions. Certainly no negativity intended! BTW, Bob was very receptive and cordial during our visit. |
